I have always wondered of but not heard much about spur use in some single shot pistol competition. This of course for single hand fire primarily but still could be employed two handed.
I've tried it some with my TC Patriot and it does seem to allow more control but have not seen it improve scores yet. Any one else had any experience with it's use care to comment ?

I’m not sure but I think the stock design must work hand in hand with the presence of a guard spur.
For sure and I completely agree ! My guess is implementing the use of the spur into grip mechanics will take some time and experimentation before it can begin to produce some score gain. I do like the feel of it and think there may be some real potential benefit from it's use !

Spured trigger guards became very common after 1800 when target shooting became a popular sport. My thought is perhaps use of the spur helped control muzzle flip.

My Traditions Trapper has the spur on the trigger guard and it took a little experimentation to develop a grip that works, but I like it, and I shoot all my flinter pistols pretty much only single-handed.
