Well this year is the first in 22 years that I never got a whitetail. The first week of black powder season saw 30-40 whitetails pass very close by, some within 30 ft. It was too warm to hang a deer, and hunting was so enjoyable I didn't want it to end. Later when I decided to take one, the weather changed, some road hunters started to drive right through the fields, spooking everything, and it got crazzy at work. The general season opened and my wife said she would like to join me hunting for an evening or two. We used to[when younger] hunt together all the time. She opted for the Savage bolt action .30-30, and the first evening she shot a little doe. I never got another good chance at aything. At least we will have good memories and some nice chops.

You got to go out to the field and hunt, thats what its all about. Thanks to your wife you now have meat in the freezer. Making fun memories forever. :hatsoff:

Sounds like a very successful season.

When you have deer within 30 feet, that's your deer. Weather or not you shoot him and take him home is up to you.
I take home empty tags every year. I buy extras so I'm sure to get to hunt the whole season even if I get one early. The last one is reserved for monster bucks only.

Yes you are right, it was a very good season. My wife and I sat yesterday until dark, and when we left a Ruffed Grouse walked across the trail not 6 ft away. Lots of plans in my head for ground blinds to build for next year, and my wife has got the bug again to go out next season. Her Traditions Deerhunter will get some use once more. On top of all that, my Grandson will be coming out next year as well.
