I love my .36 flint rifle. :thumbsup: I load with Hornady .350 000 buckshot 'cause I'm cheap, they work fine, and no squirrel ever knew the difference.
I had a .32 percussion that worked very well on squirrels. It would still tear 'em up with anything but a head shot tho.
Never tried a .40 but have heard nothing but good from those who have them.
As others have said, I'd keep the .40. It should do just as well on squirrels and can be used more effectively on larger game at longer distance.
Don't let that stop you if you "need" another rifle to. :wink:
