Is it just me or is it a lot easier to shoot flier-free small groups, consistently, with 45 and larger prbs (from a bench) than with 36 and smaller prbs?

This is not a gripe, but, I find that even with deliberate and repititious loading and bore prepping, my 36 caliber just LOVES to throw a flier to ruin an otherwise decent group! Compare this to shooting monotonous ragged holes at 25 with many of my larger bores.

Anybody else experience similar results? I love taking the smaller bores to the range and one reason is the challenge of making them group as consistently as my bigger rifles.

Comments?

If I use lube and do not wipe between shots with my .32 I have the same problem. If I run a windex soaked patch between target shots it will group fine. Even when small game hunting I sometimes will wipe with a windex soaked patch between shots. Just something an old timer showed me a long time ago. :shocked2:

This speaks to the intricacies of black powder shooting, but I've been finding the opposite. My small bore (.36) seems to group more consistantly without wiping than my .50 or .58.

Why do you leave out the .40 caliber. Doesn't that one count?

My .36 tennessee rifle is the most consistently accurate rifle I own, even if you change components it doesn't seem to matter much.I don't even wipe between shots.

I think you just need to start shooting offhand and those monotonous ragged one hole groups will disappear
