Hey guys, Jerry P really liked the horn I made him for his birthday, so he got me some horns for Christmas -two cleaned(polished) and two rough. I'm ichin' to get to work on them, but the two rough horns really stink. Is there something I can soak them in or wash them with to get rid of some of the smell?
Thanks a bunch - Mrs Jerry P

I've used baking soda in hot water. If there is a lot of junk inside you'll want to simmer the horn for a while until you can pull it out with a needle nosed pliers. (Don't simmer too long, you're not making horn soup!) Drug store peroxide should help if the soda bath doesn't do it. Main thing is make them into finished horns real fast. Its the insides that smell!

Thanks! There wasn't anything inside them, it was just the outside that smelled. Now that I cleaned them up a little, they're not so bad. Just a strong "moth ball" smell. They were the "ugly horns" from Track. They were pretty ugly when I started but they have potential. I guess it's just the junk they were laying in. Thanks again
p.s. Any other ladies out there into making horns?
Mrs Jerry P
