Cheap India powder horn customizing options

I went ahead and ordered that one in the pic from ebay. I’m going to customize it. I don’t think I can really ruin it. I will post some before and after pics.

I’m inspired by the horn in this pic. I want the plug and strap to look like this.

All of this is doable. Definitely modify the butt plug.
Hexagon shapes on the spout are easy to do.
Of course the scrimshawing would not work well on a dark horn.
Go for it. Make it your own!

Nice thing is, if it goes south, they are cheap.

Update. I sawed off the acorn and replaced it with a staple. Removed most of the shine. Added a new homemade plug.

Almost complete. I just need to dye the new straps black and apply the last coat of tung oil.

They are cheap and the horn is usually very thick so you can file away, etc. Some are not round (plug end) and need to be formed. Well worth it as a way to practice on horn work.
