My gun club has a category in their monthly matches called "trade gun". However the only criteria for the match is as follows: 54cal or larger, smooth bore, flintlock, and no rear sight. So trade guns, fowlers, fusils, brown bess, etc, all qualify. Would prefer a rifle stock and not a straight stock like found on shotguns. Will be shooting PRB 95% of the time.

I am a shooter, not a collector, so I'm open to any gun that meets that criteria. Being a shooter, and avid hunter as well, that will most likely mean carrying the gun afield and getting a few nicks and dings along the way. Because of those things listed, I'm not looking for anything fancy (aka expensive).

I've set a max budget for this at $900. That may change for the right deal, but I'm leaving some room for the supplies that I will need as I currently only have caplocks 50cal and under.

Edited to add that brown bess and other military musket replicas also qualify under our club rules. So long as they are flint, smoothbore, and no rear sight.
