So why don't all makers offer smoothbores in all the same sizes and calibers as rifled? I realize they won't sell a ton of them but it wouldn't seem it would cost them anything to make the option available. I'd like to build a smooth rifle with swamped full octagon barrel but the only smoothbore barrels I find are half or full round, that's OK, just not what I want. :boohoo: :boohoo:

Inventory. The shops won't want to carry something 1% of the builders want and have it lay around in a rack for 9 years. If you custom order from Getz or Rayl or etc., they will make you whatever you want. I don't think a big production outfit like Green Mountain etc. is going to ever do anything but the common configurations. Call a custom barrel maker, they will make what you want. Alternatively you could bore the rifling out of a barrel. ca-chunk, ca-chunk, ca-chunk (sound of tool ripping out rifling).

You could call Ed Rayl or John Getz. They'd be happy to make you one. I'm just about finish my 36 inch, 7/8's octagon, 40 caliber target smoothbore Hawken inspired rifle. Got the barrel from Rayl, took about 4 months.

Four months is why I wish they were more commonly available. GM does list .50 & .61  smoothbores but in straight Octy only. And I don't know if they are REALLY available.
