comb modifications like this were fairly common on original NW guns apparently for just that reason.

Have you tried an 1842 Springfield-type smoothie? Mine takes 80 grains of 2F under a 687 Lyman roundball and, while at 6'3" and 300-plus pounds even I know I'm shooting a real gun, it leaves no lasting or observable damage. Its flat, wide buttplate and more familiar drop at comb might treat you better... :hmm:

Sounds to me like you need to consult a real good gunbuilder who understands gun fit and have him determine what you need re. pitch, comb height/style, length, all of it. If you find somebody REALLY good, he will have a try gun that adjusts in every direction so you can determine exact dimensions. The old British aristos would never have bought a gun off the shelf. They demanded that the gun fit THEM, not the other way around. That is how they banged away on driven hunts for several hundred rounds in a day. Good luck. Getting smacked around by an ill-fitting gun just sucks.
