Finally I am ready to start building the fowler, after such a long time waiting, The Lock I built myself along with the trigger and trigger guard. The stock wood is a walnut barn timber Ive cut to shape, will hopefully order the barrel this week! The barrel will be a 20 gauge 42" Griffin fowler barrele from Colerain, Then the fun begins!

Looks like fun. Nice job on that lock. That in itself is quite an accomplishment. Now building a fowler that showcases your lock making skills will be the best tribute that you could have wanted. Keep us posted on your progress.

Im 17 doin this work when I dont have homework, or am being commisioned by people to fix thier stuff! Im restocking a model 1906 winchester for a man thats helped me alot with metal/woodwork at the moment with a highly figured piece of walnut!

Im going to change the stock profile a bit, might as well do it now but found this photo of a matchlock and the profile would fit the piece of wood I have better and it would retain a 5" tall butt plate. What do you think?

I think you should stick with the fishtail stock. I think you will like it better.

like where Ive measured the drop at tail is 1" and drop at comb is 2" and in the curve its 2.5"

Just doesnt look right yet, maybe adding the barrel will make it look better?

I made a small rear sight and 2 underlugs for the round portion of the barrel, Im really looking forward to fireing this piece when its finished! I stain tested the walnut and it has a deep red tone to it like the one they have at a museum I volunteer at, It looks really good and is better than I was hoping for!

Nice job on the rear site, but are you going to be able to cut a narrow enough dovetail for it to fit?

I believe I can, The tri file I have is tiny, When I place the flat of the file I have about a 1/16" hangover on each side at widest pt on file and the flie tapers,

I don't know squat about Snaphaunces but it's wonderful to see a young man interested in these old- style arms. Please keep us posted as you progress and keep up the good work.

Thought some might like to see some of my other work while they are waiting on updates on this project...

would it be totaly incorrect on this fowler to put the barrel lugs in a slot in the ram rod thimbles soo it has 3 pins at one point?

kinda like a new england gun? maybe I can say it was restocked lol.
