Sno Seal?

I remember reading on here that guys used Sno-Seal for patch lube. Did you use it right out of the tube or mix it with something? Thanks, Mike

Consider tallow + paraffin & beeswax. You can get beef fat for free from any grocery story big enough to have a meat counter. They accumulate it in 50 gal, drums and PAY someone to haul it away.

Boil it in a stock pot, let it cool and skim off the solid. Repeat with fresh water and the skimmed fat. When properly rendered, it will last eons without going rancid.

I've used Several blends of tallow and beeswax for many decades, and it works better than any of the big city, store-bought concoctions.

Never put a product in your bore that contains silicone. I think Sno Seal used to make a product that did not contain silicone because some leathers are not supposed to have silicone products used on them. If you can find Sno Seal that does not contain silicone, it might work as a patch lube. But, why? There are so many good lubes out there, why use a product that was never intended as a patch lube? If you are shooting targets, use spit. It is an excellent patch lube and it is extremely cheap. It's great for target shooting but not good for hunting because, given time, it will dry out in the bore. But, for target work, it is hard to beat. :thumbsup:

I use it right out of the tub...This was from 1977 to now with no problems...

I always thought SnoSeal was beeswax and a oil to make it soft, at any rate, the guns I have used it in have suffered no adverse effects...

After doing a bit of online research about Sno-Seal Bees Wax waterproofing preparation in a can, it turns out that I was thinking of a different Sno-Seal product. The Bees Wax preparation does not contain silicone. It is the Sno-Seal spray water proofer that contains silicone. It appears that, lacking any information to the contrary, the bees wax preparation contains nothing harmful to your bore. Use it at your own discretion.

I guess I'm just wore out from seeing so many questions about patch lube all these years,, every time ya turn around folks are wanting to try another product for lube,,
Guy's can make such a complicated mess out of something so darn simple.
But I guess just by walking past the shelves in the stores it's guarantied that there is magic miracle juices out there that solve every problem, just pick up any can an read the label,
*Shoot a 1000 shot's
*Easy cleaning
*Stops rust
*No water clean up
*Makes metal slicker

Hey, Mike, when you have been here long enough, you will find that when you ask a question, you will get good hard factual answers. You will also get a smattering of opinions. They're all free so take them for whatever they are worth to you. Just think of the opinions as the Lagniappe you get along with the facts that you want.

Really, if pure, sans silicone, should work fine as is. If you want to mix with something, go ahead. There are zillions of patch lube concoctions in use already. One more will just add to the list.

Actually, most here love it on boots. I have used and, in my experience, it is pretty useless for keeping water from soaking into the leather.

Im actually thinking of trying Sno Seal for maxi lube instead of bore butter. Mike
