Actually I wouldn't care.
Not meaning I would try and trespass, I mean just be good to have a yarn.
There is some good deer land a couple of hours from here but the ground is just slop and I don't have a 4x4 but my mate went last weekend and just turned around

Big ranch close to me has a herd of about 1,000 elk. Love the bugling this time of year. Not the best pic at all, but here's a few of them.

According to this they were used for reconnaissance in America.
I quote ".........left San Antonio on June 25, 1857, and 25 pack camels accompanied a train of mule-drawn wagons."
It's different form camels drawing the wagons. Interesting article though, seems without the camels the survey would have failed.
Thanks for posting it.
Also talks about trying them as draft animals

Thanks. I obviously misread the article and confused pack train with wagon train. Maybe it was from the old "Death Valley Days" program where they fictualized the whole thing.

Interesting piece of history though. There were also stories of a couple of camels that wandered the San Joaquin valley in the Bakersfield area in the early 1900's that were brought in for like work in the oil patch. Stories abound about them in the Mojave, but you know how that goes......my buddy knows a guy who's little sister once dated a guy who's great uncle said his Dad saw one.......

This is some more info on the camels in CA

Does cutting mushrooms count as “not killed?” The spores are still released :)
