We got to talking and he mentioned that he really just wanted a belt pouch to put in a couple speed loaders, ball starter, vent pick , small priming horn and a flint wallet to lighten his load while chasing deer up in the Adirondacks. Oh ya and that dang ball starter really hurts when ya fall down on it...
Ok first things first, I had what I thought was good piece of antler that just might make a flatter starter, so I put one together. Then I built a pouch out of Mocc weight Elk leather that should hold everything he wants to take. Made him a vent pick too.
I tried to get creative and stitched in a deer head on the flap. I drew a deer head one day when I was 11 or 12 and since then have used it for various things over the years. I put a template I have in the scanner and made it small enough to trace on the flap. Came out ok but unfortunately it doesn't transfer to leather very good.
All in all it was a fun project and gave me some practice, as this was the first bag I've made, before I tackle my own possible bag.
