ok this may sound nuts but the other day I went to grab a piece of iron out in the yard, it had been sitting in the sun and was so hot I couldn't hold it even for a few seconds, it was hot in the hand even after I grabbed a glove. ok heres my question, ya always hear of" never grind somthing hot enough to be uncomfortable" or it could mess with the temper of a blade. So if this was a thinner piece of steel IE a blade, that got left out or whatever--could the heat sucked up from the sun actually mess up the temper possably?I know if something turns bluish in color its way to hot but am curious as to the possable effect from just plain ol sunlight. thanks guys YMHS Birdman  :hmm:

I don't think so, if you left it out and it got hot enough to ruin the temper it would instantly raise serious blisters when touched.

No, it would have to get over 400° to affect the temper. The hot sun can affect some handle materials though.

I agree with the above . I think that the recomendation of not getting the metal more than hot to the touch leaves you with a good margin of heat to keep you out of trouble.
