It was kind of a knee-jerk compulsion buy…. I was kinda shocked by how pretty the stock was and the uniqueness of the antler inlay on the heel. I still like my 1980’s .50 TC Hawken, but there’s a crack in the stock of the old war horse and it makes me a little nervous to shoot it. Might never break, but…

The price seemed right for such a pretty art piece! If I can make it shoot as good as it looks, I’ll be mighty happy.

That is already done, and it is zeroed

Ah, but I still have to do my part… That’s what I’m worried about the most.

Oh, I was thinking about how pretty it is, and how I really like the amber color to it. I’ve only seen one other Hawken that has that pretty of wood, and that’s one that is owned by @aussie pete The amber color of this one really gets me.

Unless the toe plate is jigged bone it looks a lot more like a slab of antler, not bone. Congrats on your purchase, Terrier.

That is one beautiful rifle. I have two now myself, but they don’t look anywhere near as nice.
Just curious, what is the two-letter date code? The letters will be inside a box stamped on the barrel.

I'm pretty certain it's antler. That's what it looks like to me, and I'm fine with that! I make a lot of stuff out of antler. The powder measure I'll eventually use with it will be made of antler. I've always used a 70g antler measure with my TC .50 Hawken. I recently made a 50g for the .40 cal SMR I put together. I'll need a new one for the 75g load that Mule said worked well with this gun, so that may well be a project for the coming weekend. Got all my bush hoggin' done last weekend when the humiditty was down... this weekend is looking pretty durned blazin' hot and humid, so inside work is on the agenda.

And thanks! I'm tickled with it.

You might be surprised at how much heavier your new rifle is compared to the TC Hawken. The Hawken is a stout rifle.

The Uberti Hawken rifle is one of the more “authentic” reproductions out there. Here’s some info: http://grrw.org/uberti-santa-fe-hawken/
