I found these invoices in a file the other day. The good old days, never to return.

Prices for Ithaca Hawken kit in 1977 $213.00

.36 barrel from H&H Barrel Works from 1982 $122

North Star Ent Trade gun parts sans stock wood 1980 $127.84

Parts for two mountain rifles from Ron Griffie written on the back of a $2 coin wrapper, no date,$348.75.

Thats petty cool, Thanks for sharing. I'll run across those old invoices and black powder cans with a $5 price on them now and think those were the days.

But then I remember inflation.

Old receipts and memories of long ago purchases gives ya a WOW moment. 1st blackpowder firearm, a Euroarms 1851 Navy Colt 44 in 1972 @ $70, caps $1 per 100, 3F powder around $2#. Started full time law enforcement 1975, bought NIB Colt .357 Trooper @ $165 instead of a NIB Colt Python @ $200. Should have taken out a loan and bought a pallet of both. Think my 1974 TC Hawken was $150 NIB, gasoline was still around the ,35 per gallon, ya could fill yer tank for around $5.......ah those were the days, price wise anyway....ifin you were making 15K a year ya had it made.

Ha ha, so my $213 rifle kit in 1977 cost as much as a set of parts would cost in 2023 to build that same rifle. That's ironic.

My first rifle was a Mowrey I got for $90
And a navy arms ‘Kentucky Rifle’ for my first flint lock at $150, took me four months to save my Pennie’s for it

My first job was pumping gas in the early 70s, gasoline was in the $0.30 per gallon range. However to make that fact easier to take, my job paid $1.81 per hour. I’m still working and I make a bit more than that now but I’m not pumping gas.

The sad thing is that I fear that before too long we will be calling our current time the good old days.

Ah the bad old days. My first real non-farm job paid $2 an hour. I remember the boss asking me “would you tighten up for 10 cents more”? Yee Ha, $2.10 an hour, and that was cash under the table! Kept gas in the old F100 and pocket money for a teenager.

In 1985 i bought two Ithaca Hawkin rifles from Ithaca for $450.00 each. They said it was the last two they had?I sure would like to buy a truck full at that price now?

I bought my first muzzle loader in 1977. It was a TC Hawken .50 kit. It was $175 and I bought it from the JC Penney store in Anchorage, Alaska. I still have it.

I still have my first Muzzle Loader bought back in the 1980s, a CVA SXS 12 bore from a kit. It was from Mid South Shooters Supply and I want to say was around $180. I messed some stuff up but was fortunate to be able to source replacement parts from CVA back then to finish it. I recently installed Musket nipples and had to tweak the hammers a little for clean strikes. Really need to get it out and shoot it. Bit much for Squirrel but it will do!

My first .22 rifle in 69 was 18.50..In 1972 or 73 you could buy a Marlin 22 rifle w / a 4 power scope for 39.95 a Marlin bolt 22 mag was 49.95..The Great old days of yesteryear..
