Here is a bag I made 27 years ago and it still keeps on a going. It is based on the apache saddle bags and New Mexican filigree worked leather goods. I stash all of my cleaning supplies in it for events.

Looks great Cooner, bet it has plenty of stories it could tell.

When you say apache saddle bags is that a name for a certain artifact or saddle bags that apaches made and used? I'm just curious, I'm slowly learning about the tribe (they lived in most places I trek and camp so I figure maybe I should learn some more about them!)

Here are a couple of pictures of the type of work on Apache saddle bags. Also Carson and Tobins coats have this kind of filigree work on them. I have also seen Botas (half leggins) made like this. Little Bat Garnier is wearing a pair of filigreed botas in a popular photograph.

Senor,

Where'd this one come from? Typical plains saddle bag pattern, Very nice piece. I'd like to get a closer look at it. Know the provenance on it? Not bad work on the other one either, by the way.

Speaking of filigree, wonder if Chuck ever ran down Tobin's coat?

Sean, I found these on the google images search engine (apache saddle bags) for Desert Rat to look at. I am not sure what the provenance is. I like the filigree stuff of the Southwest.

That bag of mine has made a great camp pillow over the years.

Thanks Cooner... hate to admit it but I kinda forgot about this thread until about 2am this morning :shake: Anyway, I would have quessed that type of work is more spanish than native.
