Well I am FAR from handy, but I'm pretty happy with this. I'm sure you all have made these too. Got the idea from Mark Baker's "A Pilgrim's Journey" book and made it from scraps of leftover leather from other projects. Coated with beeswax/oil mixture.

Squeeze-top, holds ten or so .50cal roundballs flat, fits nicely in possibles bag. Only 3"x2&1/4". Enough for a weekend hunt/trek or you could make it bigger. As Baker states, the best part is, no drawstrings to fumble with or accidental spills when you're moving, especially wth cold hands.

Amazing how, everytime I skim that book, I modify some part of my kit. Worth every penny and I don't even have Volume2 or the DVDs yet.

Safe shootin,

- Jet

PS: Bear with me, I never have an easy time postin' pics.

Enlighten me; I don't have Baker's book. Is there spring stock in the neck, or is it just stiff leather that keeps the neck mouth closed?

Baker basically says "heavy leather" is best for this pattern. In my case, I used up some soft leather scraps for the body but stiff leather for the neck. So the neck has four layers total.

You don't have to make them this shape. A longer, thin bag works just as well. I am thinking 4 inches long, and just large enough to easily let you move the balls in and out of the neck. It would be easier for most people to have a couple extra such ball bags in their range boxes, to throw into their possibles bag for a shoot, than to carry ONE large bag with too many balls for a day's hunt. If its just big enough to fit in your palm, its more easily controlled when you " spit " one ball out of it to load your rifle.

Sounds easy enough that even I can do it!

Mazo, you can do it!! I made one of these and they're pretty darn easy, and handy.

I used some soft leather in the body and then some Veg tan for the stiffer at the neck. Makes it just stiff enough to hold it closed and still easy to squeeze open.
