oh I forgot I also won 2 squal gun comps with it. firts one was the day I bought it!

Where ever the fouling myth came from, it's flat wrong. A .32 will not foul any more or any worse than the big bores.

I'm not sure it's a myth. I've read it many times on other muzzleloading forums from guys who own the rifle.

I'm not bothered by it. I don't consider swabbing a bore a big deal.

I agree with Hanshi. I have not seen my small bores crud up any more than the larger bores. I have a .32 and a .36. One has a GM barrel and the other has a Sharon button rifled barrel. Both will shoot all day without swabbing just like the big guys.

I don't know where this story started but I have been hearing it for the 35 years I have been in the hobby. A snug patch and ball combination with a wet lube will keep you shooting all day without wiping. Even using a greasy lube with the right combo should keep you going for five or six shots before the barrel gets too tight. I have found it to be the same whether you are shooting a .32 or .58.

I like the looks of that gun but I never heard of crocket, who makes them? I'm shooting alyman plains rifle .45 with lite loads 35gr. 3f. 36inch barrel. I heard the .32 and .36s are hard to load you need a tree near by to load them after a few shots , is there any truth to this?

Hi Mike , what kind of rod do you use to load the small .32 .I've heard you have to use a steel or brass rod for that small bore .

I normally use a Treso 1/4" stainless range rod. It is the same one I use on my longer rifles.

When I built the rifle I have it set up to take a 5/16" ramrod but I found that there wasn't the clearance I like when pushing a ball down the barrel with it. The 5/16 rod would barely fit down the barrel. I changed it out to a 1/4" rod with a .17 hornet case cut at the shoulder for a tip - can't find the threaded tips I normally use in 1/4". Due to a screwup with I built the rifle, the front lock bolt goes up in the ramrod channel a little. Enough to hold the little ramrod in place. I only use the little, flimsy one when hunting. It works fine but seems awfully flimsy when I use it.

I did the same thing for a short starter. I didn't like the clearance on the short starter I use on my .36. I went over to Ace and got some 1/4" brass bar stock and made a short starter for it.

Never had a problem loading my .32 or my .36. The only reason that I like a tree near by is to look for more tree rats in.

I use a 5/16" fiberglass rod for my Crockett. It doesn't have much 'wiggle' room in the bore, but it's very stiff & solid.
When I'm shooting at the range, I swab with an alcohol patch, followed by a dry patch after every shot. When I'm out skwerlin' I don't bother. The fouling in my .32 is no worse than it is in my .54
9 or 10 shots between wiping is no trouble whatsoever.

thanks , hey that cutoff .17 case sound like good idea , i'l have to try it, I used a cutoff 32-20 case for the end of my ball starter. for my .45 cal.

The link wouldnt work for me. I havent had any problems with any of the small bores fouling up real bad, no more than anything else.

If your link was to another muzzleloading Forum, this site will block the link.
This is explained in Rule #13 which says: "Do not post links to sites that contain Muzzleloading Forums."

The Crockett is made by Traditions. At the range I usually use a range rod with all my guns. In the woods I use the rod that happens to be under the barrel. I've hunted and shot my Crockett a lot over the years and have the original wooden ramrod that came with it 10 years ago. A.32 or .36 will not foul anymore than a .54. I've fired dozens of shots many afternoons in my Crockett without the necessity of wiping the bore. This is one of the very few import/production rifles I like.

The reason is because Claude says so.
Owning the site has a few privileges I guess.

Coming up with my own reason I think linking similar web sites on this one is kinda like sitting at someones table at dinner time and talking about how good the food down at Ruby's Diner is. :hmm:

I've never had the pleasure of shootin' a .32 (But I ain't dead yet,so someday. :hmm: ) but I just got a new to me CVA squirrel rifle in .36 last week and an informal plinking session with about 20 shots fired didn't cause a bit more fouling than the same amount of shots from my .50 GPR. Used FFG Goex and patches lubed with moose milk.

Maybe, but I see other forums linking to here. I also see members from here on other forums.

I might have seen you too. :hmm:

It's not like we don't know about other forums.

However, it's Claude's rules. So, that's the bottom line.

btw..Have you tried Ruby's pie? It's the best.
