I used to belong to a historical reenactment group. We were interested in the fur trade period of the late 18th & early 19th century activities and companies operating in the Minnesota, Wisconsin & west of here. Travel with the equipment they would have used, eaten what they did. No modern equipment except a first aid kit. This was a trip I took with them in 1987 on the Minnesota River (used to be the St. Pierre) from Lac Qui Parle lake on the western border of Minnesota to Ft. Snelling at the Mississippi on the eastern border. It was interesting (& sometimes fun) but a lot of work, especially on the portages on the border lakes trips. The group may still be in existence, it was called La Compagnie de Hivernauts de La Rivere St. Pierre and they had a website.

Looks like you guys made a connection to the period. I'll bet there are a few stories to tell about that trip.

I say time to do it again! Take a couple 30 somethings along to do the heavy work if your not able. Pass it on to the next generation. You would have a blast.

Those some if the coolest photos I have ever seen. I hope you have them framed and on your wall.
