You're in my prayers Capper. Us old farts gotta stick together. Best of luck and heal up good.

Vern

Heal good mister. It sounds about like the Hugh Glass story when he was attacked by a bear in the Black Hills, with the exception of the fact that he had no pain killer while sewing up. I pray for you to come back stronger than before!

Give it time to heal proper. I have enough scars on my neck, that it makes everything think I am one tough SOB and not to be messed with. Don't need allot of camo to the face as nothing would think your human. LOL Getting old and gathering scars isn't for sissies.

Glad to see your back home. Looks like they did a job on you. Hope it all heals quickly, as needed and fixes the problems. You'll be back in the woods real soon. Take care and know we're thinking of ya

Thanks again. Scars are healing ok. My biggest concern is my fuzzy vision. If that comes back to normal, the scars are no concern.

I'm staying positive so far. I keep my mind on the next elk hunt.

HANG IN THERE YOUG FELLOW,AND TAKE CARE AND BEHAVE YOUR SELF AND HEAL UP (THEN YOU CAN GO ELK HUNTING ).THINKING OF YOU.WALT

Whoa real small world , I've gone fly fishing with Steve. He's a real class act. That article i believe was from OOD magazine which is my local Hunting magazine. I also shoot at the same archery club as he does. Thats pretty cool that Still hunting is something so universal

It's hard for me to do it any other way. My dad did it, and I still do it after all these years.

Most effective? Probably not, but it sure is fun and satisfying.

still hunting works very well for me here! i VERY often walk up on deer while cuttin through the woods, that may be attributed to the amount of deer in these woods, but i like to think its my ***** style of goin through the woods! often in nov,its still fairly warm here 60-70 degrees and a lot of times ill go barefoot through the woods and im probally twice as silent then! ive had lots of shots present themselves by freezing when i see one ! it is the basics in hunting and always feels more sporting to me than sitting in a stand with a machine slinging corn around, thats kinda like fishing in a aquarium after not feeding the fish for a week.im kinda different about deer hunting i believe the deer should have a sporting chance also! mike

I was forced to learn to still hunt here in the Ca.national forest, I COULDN'T AFFORD TO HUNT ON A PRIVATE RANCH,where there isn't any brush !! Sitting in a deer blind or stand, just doesn't work here, not in the forest-- you have to still hunt to see any game and you are forced to learn or go without!!

A very good post that really gets to the soul of this type of hunting, which is really the classical type of doing things that the word "hunting" brings to mind for me as I was raised and taught by a father, uncles and grandfathers who had been taught this style as were their fathers, uncles and grandfathers.

same here friend. i use a climbing stand. not enough land to walk around.
I still hunt for hogs and small game but won't give up my loggy bayou for deer. I hunt public land and still hunting in the southeast isn't very productive or probably safe. I like still hunters though, they push a lot of deer past my stand. 😁 Chris

Maybe, but I have spoken to few that were right on top of me "sneaking" by and I am pretty sure that they had to go clean out their drawers. Chris
oh yes. seen a bunch og people sneeking thru the woods. usually i dont say nothing to them just let them go on by. one time a guy walked by me i just sat up that tree and watched him. he finally set down geabbed up his rattling bag and cut loose. started kicking the leaves around. finally lol i couldnt hold it. lol. he knew he wasnt supposed to be hunting there. he looked up. apologized. told him it was ok. lol. it all ended well. he liked to hunt as much as i do.

That's how I think about it :haha:. I always refer to my tactics as "Luke's Bag of Tricks." :haha: In rainy conditions when there's no one else hunting I still hunt, I sit in a stand if the conditions feel right for me to hunt in my spots that have tree stands. If I feel like going to a spot that I don't have a stand in I find a good spot on the ground. I usually have no luck with this because there's a reason I have stands in those locations 😁. I've also been known to follow fresh tracks in the snow on those below zero types of days.
sounds good to me. everyone does it a little different. as long as everyone comes home safe. keep hunting friend

So is hunting from a treestand some how wrong or you have tried it and just don't enjoy it?
naw. im a treehunter. love sitting and watching everything in the woods i dont care how anyone wants to hunt. only bad thing for me is when i have to go poop. hahaha. dang its a long way back down. ugh a few times i wasnt fast enough. aint telling about that part
