Call Pecatonica. They do precarved, but I'm sure they will sell you a blank, and might cut a barrelchannel or ramrod hole in a blank for ya . Bill

I snuck out to my Dad's back yard and cut down his English Walnut tree. Then took a branch off the Maple tree. He never even noticed. Got 4 stocks off the Walnut and 1 off the Maple. :front:

I gonna tell him!

Great idea! You got me thinking now! My dad farms around 1500 acres and has allot of hardwood! Uh Oh

Mule Brain, you better not tell. He would turn over in his grave if he found out I cut down his tree! I just wish I had gotten to the pecan, too. Pretty wood! I just used a bigazz chainsaw and cut the tree down, then cut up a chunk of the trunk. I waxed the ends and brought it to Arizona where it sat for about 4 years. When I started working with it, it was DRY. I built two rifles from the walnut. Still have two half-stock blanks. The maple is a 6' chunk of wood that I want to start. But I am moving next week so I will have to wait and wait and wait....new house honey-do list is long.........

Sorry to hear your dad passed on , if that is the case.

I could just see him looking at the rifle, and saying Boy that sure is a beautiful stock! Where on earth did you find it? :haha:

Mule Brain. Yes, Dad passed on a couple of years ago. Actually, he cut the tree down and brought me a couple of slabs out of the center of the trunk. I did get 4 good stock blanks out of it. (And a couple not so good) I cut the maple down because it was a danger to the house and Mom wanted it gone. I still wish I could have gotten the Pecan! Dad would have loved it. He is still with me and guides me on each hunt. I can hear his voice on the wind: Squeeezzze!! :front: To the best of my knowledge, Dad never fired a muzzleloader in his life. But he did get to see the first rifle I built and he was pleased with the results.
