stock finish/permalyn finish trouble

has anyone ever had water streaks appear on a stock finished w/permalyn sealer and finish? i finished a stock with both and the first time it touched water (during cleaning) the stock was streaked

what happened to all the replies?
I have used Permalyn stock sealer and then used other finishes on top w/o any such streaking. Watch out for special mix cleaners that have harsh solvents. Water should never affect any gun finish that way. Sounds more like shellac to me.

Was the water clean or was it fouled water out of the bore? If you're cleaning your gun and the dirty water gets on the finish it'll streak almost every time, depends a little on the solvent/cleaner you're using but I've seen it happen a lot. Not a problem with the finish but the residue from shooting mixed with the water...
