.454 rb, CCI #11 caps, crisco over ball
Zero malfunctions or cap jams. accuracy about the same for all loads, 3" groups at 25 yards. All rb groups low (3-5", lower the higher the fps) and 2" right. Conical load zero elev. 2" right.

Awesome data set, especially for the 30gr Pyrodex P because that's what I run out of my Uberti Remington with the 8" barrel.

Those are some nice numbers, which show the revolver delivering performance similar to some loadings of a particular popular unmentionable round. Impressive!

If anyone doubts the practical terminal ballistic capabilities of these revolvers, they need to check out your results.

Since I don't own a chronograph, I always save good ballistic data in the forum for my 8" Remington New Army. Thanks for the post.

Meant to put this in original post, but that 200 grain conical bullet @975 fps gets 422 ft./lbs of energy. That is only using a 25 grain (volume) charge. That has been a good deer load for years, I get pass thrus with it. Don't want anymore out of a cap and ball revolver, and I even use that load sparingly.

Volume. I very rarely weigh black powder, or any of it's substitutes. I usually just use a spout on the flask. Surprisingly, when using spouts on flask, and i have actually weighed the charge, they measured consistently within a tenth of a grain or rarely two. That is overkill with black powder. However, on this test, to insure accurate results, I actually used a volumetric powder measure carefully leveled off.

I was impressed with the velocity using Triple 3f.
I bought a pound of it yesterday and plan on trying some loads in my 45 caliber round ball rifle.
I figure 60 to 70 grains volume, 440 ball.
I don't have a chrono but I imagine that it would be pretty fast.

Xlent write-up, thank you. Black powder revolvers are serious tools. They'll clobber critters as far as you can hit em. Have you tried any llads with a lubed wad under the ball? In my Pietta 58, i can put 35gr 3f goex, a wad, and a round ball for just over 1000fps, if my memory is correct. 40gr under a ball with lube over the ball goes 1100fps.
