Mods - if this post is in the wrong section sorry...

So a while back I acquired an old book from a friend of my Mom's who passed away. It's called Memories by Fannie A. Beers. It's an account of the war by a Confederate nurse, copyright 1888.

I was looking online for similar copies of this book, not having much luck finding another original printing, though finding many more modern editions. Finally I found a website that had sold a copy of this book and it looked the same. I thought to myself that the marks and wear on the book looked similar to mine, then I realized it IS MINE! Every mark is exactly the same. An amazing coincidence for sure.

The website it was listed on makes you pay to sign up to find out how much the book sold for (of course) I guess I just wanted to share this strange story, and I may try contacting see sources for determining value of old books so if anyone knows where I might start let me know. Thanks!

Yes it is @Kansas Jake. I guess the guy that I got it from is the one that bought it from that website. He had an extensive Civil War book collection, as well as lots of Confederate bills and framed Confederate newspapers, and my Mom gave it all to me. He was a friend of my mom's in AA (sober 20 years or so), a Marine veteran of Vietnam, seemed like a really cool guy. His only family was a niece that wanted none of his possessions, all she wanted was his bank account and the proceeds from his house...really sad.

This book is in really good shape for its age, and very interesting. You can turn to any random page in this book and the descriptions of the aftermath of these battles is horrifying.

So did your Mom buy the book from the website or your Mom's friend?
Hey, thanks for the reply. I just replied to another guy right as you were responding. If you read my last post from a minute ago you will see my guess on that. I'm not sure but no my mom didn't buy it.

Interesting. Book is almost too valuable to subject to much reading . FWIW Paperback copies are listed on amazon for under $6

Yeah @vintovka I will buy a cheap paperback copy to read, it's really interesting from what I've read. Sometimes books from back then are difficult to read because they just didn't speak the way we do, so it gets boring to me but this one is not like that. Thanks for the reply. Justin
