I have a powder horn I ordered from cabelas. mostly black with a little white stripes here and there, looks pretty good except for the strap. I am looking for suggestions on what to use. I like the look of some of the woven straps I have seen on the forums, I have also seem some really nice leather straps.

I make mine the old fashioned way by cutting leather strips from deer hides I have tanned. I punch holes in the strap of my bullet pouch and thread the leather deer hide strips into the hole and tie a knot to keep it from pulling back out. On the end attached to the horn, I cut a slit in the leather and loop the strap back through the slit and place the loop over a groove I file into the spout end of the powderhorn and the other strap to the powderhorn end plug. It is not fancy; but, works for me and is probably how it was done 150 years ago.

these are good value for $10 for a woven strap from october country.go to on line store then horn hardware.http://www.octobercountry.com/

The present strap I have is a store bought from Wallyworld and allthough I think it looks like its woven. It mimicks somewhat of an Indian pattern, its not heavy material and will fray easy I fear, but is all I could get at the time!
Thanks for the link on the straps, already got it listed in my favorites for future use.
