Over on another thread, a member suggested stripping and refinishing the stock as part of giving a production gun an "antiqued" look. What stripper / refinisher would you guys recommend for doing that job?

Different case... I have a stock that feels greasy... probably has a few decades of gun oil and body oil built up in / on the finish... what would you recommend for stripping this stock prior to refinishing?

any good paint stripper will remove varnish, or you can sand it off (yuck)
as for the greasy feel, you could use a little soap and water or a soft cloth with alcohol to help remove it, it may be to much linseed oil which will get very sticky if you use to much and don't rub it in.
good luck.

I've used Zip Strip or something like that. Once you get it on and soften everything up try using steel wool to lightly scrap the gunk off. Wear rubber gloves.
