Stupid mistake

I am currently building a pedersoli kentucky rifle and almost have it finished, however the rear ram rod pipe was slightly raised from the stock. I then decided to glue it down with expoxy and clamp it which solved the problem. Not thinking I left my ramrod in and low an behold some of the glue leaked into the ramrod channel and the ramrod is currently stuck. Is there a way to remove the ramrod without destroying the gun, especially since I want a gun with a working ramrod.

 

yep heat the the pipe with a sodering iron or heat gun the epoxy will let go and you will be able slide the rod out .

 

Hey, that's a mistake I havn't made yet!!

Locked a barrel in with glass bedding once, but never a rod.

The very best Epoxys have a maximum service temperature of 400 degrees F. Most Epoxys give up at around 300 degrees F.

Armed with this knowledge and an appropriate heat source, you will be able to remove the ramrod. ::

There is also a product called "Jabsco Paint and Epoxy Remover" that will "uncure" epoxy. It is nasty, and won't hurt the wood, but the goo takes a lot of acetone and rags to remove.

You'll need skin and eye protection, as not only is the stuff corrosive, the after mess can be driven into your skin via the acetone. But it will leave the wood clean.

A while back, a rondy buddy, (who shall remain unnamed),decided to decorate his "Hawken" with brass tacks.
He ran about 20 tacks right down the bottom of the forearm. :curse:
Yup, the rod was still in there.
I suspect he had a harder time getting his rod out than you will with the soldering gun, plus he had to make a new rod.

Don't feel too bad.
