I’ll be returning my second Investarms Gemmer Hawken (Lyman Great Plains) rifle. First one broke the nose cap off during shipping, second one the lock area was cut wrong and the lock sits too far forward causing the barrel not to fit in the channel as the drum rests on the lock/stock area. Dang, seems quality has sure fallen off since COVID era… Not sure which company to buy from anymore, seen a lot of Pedersoli posts lately too…

If you want to buy a factory gun I suggest biting the bullet to make a road trip to the closest shop that has what you want. Then you can see it, handle it, and maybe have a few to choose from. I know there’s time and trip cost involved, but it can be a fun time.

Totally agree, I’d love to make the trip up to muzzle-loaders, it’s 4 hours away but sadly I just can’t get away at this time, guess I’ll just do some thinking for some time before I check out anywhere else. Maybe I’ll just wait a while.

If they’re that close I’d just hold off until your schedule allows. That’s an easy one day trip if you leave early. And I’d let them know you were coming and what you wanted to see. They should treat you right.

FT92, I think your title should have been Relative Rant as I did not see anything stupid in your text. You paid good money for a quality product and a quality product you should have received. I was in logistics for forty years and the shipping incident you described could have happened to anyone. But to allow an obviously defective product to be shipped is inexcusable. Better luck to you on the next one. Keep us posted on the outcome.

Request they inspect the gun for quality problems before shipping. Tell them they are getting one chance.
Yeah, this time I did this being the second one. Muzzle-loaders seems hard to get ahold of and return calls as I’m still trying to setup a return and refund this morning, I’ll probably take my business elsewhere

I have Lyman flint and percussion GPRs and sent the first ones back for each due to fit issues that made the barrel impossible to install as is.

What made them impossible to install. I really like Lyman GPR,s but have only done one kit.
To be honest, you might be fine with a kit, on mine they installed the lock to far forward and the barrel/nipple drum area wouldn’t quite fit in the notch on the lock, that and it wasn’t milled all the way in the lock area and the trigger wouldn’t set the sear on the hammer.

I like mine too and have killed two bulls with the percussion one. A wedge pin would not go in on one and I don’t think minor filing would have helped. On the other, after the breech was hooked into the tang, the barrel would not fit into the channel due to misalignment, e.g., hitting one side. Removing wood was not my first choice. Both were likely due to general misalignment of installed/fixed parts.

I am sorry to hear of your problems with those rifles. There seems to be a shameless disregard for quality in many areas of production.

I have bought (I think) three guns from sellers on this forum over the past couple of years. All were sellers who move a lot of guns, and not “single item” sellers, but the firearms have been as described. I would respectfully suggest that you be patient and watch the classifieds on this forum. Ask the seller for references if in doubt, and contact previous buyers. You may be able to pick up a used rifle that’s already “broke in” for much less than the price of a new one.

I’ve seen some deals here that made me wish I had more storage space and a bigger gun budget.

Good luck to you, and thanks for reporting this quality-control issue.

I don’t know if I got lucky with a Pre-covid gun, but my Pedersoli Frontier shipped in from IFG last week, and it’s a beauty. None of the poor craftsmanship I’ve seen posted about on here.
