So I am at the range, sighting in my TC Hawken. The Sun is turning the front sight into a super nova for my eyes.
most of you all probably already know this, but it was a new idea to me.
I put a masking tape sun shade over the front sight-problem solved!

I have made some sight shades from 1"plastic water pipe. I cut a slit in the bottom so I can spread the sides to fit over the sights dovetail base.

why not just smoke the sight , you use a candle , a match , your bic lighter

a sooted sight is about a s flat of a black as you can get all, if you don't like it wipe it off with a patch

I've used pvc and a few other things for sight covers on occasion. One thing that worked was a front sight cover off a .22LR. It was springy enough to grip the front sight base. Being metal it was durable as well.
