I purchased what was sposed to be a .440 Lee roundball mold at a gunshow a while back, pulled it out of the box at the showand took a quick glance at it. I was gonna make some round balls today and done a closer inspection of the mold, the last three numbers on the mold say 435... Looked at my .390 mold and my 395 mold and the last three numbers coorespond with what they are sposed to be....so I'm gonna trade it for a 440 mold for my 45 cal. Made me a little upset... But it was my own fault for not doing a closer inspection at the time of purchase.

Before you get rid of your .435 diameter mold, you might want to cast up some roundballs and try them in your .45 caliber rifle. You might be surprised.

They should load a little easier than a .440 ball and your gun might really like them.
If it does, it could put 10 shots into one ragged hole but you would never know if you didn't try it. :hmm:

Oh yeah. There can be a lot of confusion in that caliber range.

"I have a .45 rifle, what diameter do you recommend?"

".440"

"Ok I'll take a box of those. Now I need somethimg for my .44 cap and ball revolver, what do you recommend?"

".454"

Before jumping, allot of lee mould numbers do not correspond the cast bullet size. My .440 RB mould ends in 436 so you might want to check and cast some up and see. Most my Lees drop a couple thousands over anyway.

Black Jaque,
I know you were trying to show different bullet sizes can be confusing, and they are. Just in case other out there may not know, a BP revolver shoots a ball that is oversized to the borel diameter.
