Swamp barrel dovetails

I’m building a Haines flintlock with swamp barrel and my question is when cutting dovetails do I tilt the barrel so the cutter cuts flat or level the barrel to the machine?If level to machine one side will have a deeper cut thanks

I would level the flat where the cut would be, a very shallow cut at that.

The dovetail should be 90 degrees to the barrel flat so the the sight will be flush with the barrel. I cut by hand so there is no other consideration.

Thanks guys ,that was what I was thinking ,just wanted second opinion,I had talked to Rice barrel but forgot to ask him,he said only cut 1/16 deep dovetail
