Never have used it. Never could find it. But now I have a few pounds of Swiss 3f coming and want to give it a shot. So, with everyone saying it burns faster and increases pressure how does 30g for .40 cal, 50gr for .45, 60gr for .50 sound as a starting load? Is it so fine or hot that I should go 2f for .50?

Yes its hotter. I shoot 50 - 60 grains in a .40 and 100 grains in a .50. Where did you find it? I've been looking for weeks.

You will need to see for yourself. My experience with my .45 flintlock was reducing from 65 grains 3f Goex to 45 grains 3f Swiss to yield the same results on target.

Gotta help out. I don't shoot a ton so every few months I buy a few pounds to keep the stock up, but I reckon if we all buy what we need +1 pound we will all still be able to get powder. Just like toilet paper  ;)
Just placed an order. That will keep me running through the winter.

Does it still group well though at that 6" higher? Meaning is it still a consistent load?
Yes its consistent and damned accurate. Just had to make a slight sight adjustment. I had been using Goex for many years in this cap lock Hawken rifle with excellent results. Able to break clays at 100 yard etc. The Swiss just shoots flatter. I no longer have to raise the elevation bar between 50 and 100.

Swiss does burn FASTER and some what hotter so you can reduce a typical Goex charge by AT LEAST 10% when using Swiss. NO, I don't work for Swiss! I have made a point of trying most of the powders available over the past three years and Swiss is just stronger, faster and cleaner than anything else I have ever used. I now shoot Swiss 3f in ALL my flintlocks from my .45 caliber rifles up to and including my .62 caliber smoothbore Fusil de chasse and it just works great in all of them. I use Swiss 2f in my .75 caliber Brown Bess. I also use Swiss 3f for priming. Is it more expensive? Yes, it is. Is it sometimes harder to find? Yes, it is. I like it because it performs so well and allows me to only carry ONE grade of black powder out to the range most days (and Lord knows I have to carry enough with me as it is). Having said all that, are Goex, OE and others good powders? Sure they are and less expensive too but, when it comes to black powders (as in almost everything) you do get what you pay for.

Thanks for the info. Fully aware of other powders. Even have a couple pounds of Kik still in the magazine. Just have never used Swiss. Probably gonna save my remaining metal tin Goex as a hand-me-down if I ever have grandkids. Heck, I bought that Goex in the metal tin almost 20 years ago from a BassPro.

X2. If you reduce about 15% and then start working up to your desired performance you should be in good shape.
