Recently pick up some estate guns that I intend to sell. Had to buy them all to get the two I wanted. One is a nice 12 ga. SxS that weighs 6 lbs 2 oz with mirror like bores & just normal honest use wear. The right hand lock spring felt weaker than the left, so when I took the lock out I saw the mainspring had been welded. The pic shows the only stampings on the gun, so I'm not sure what exactly it is. I'm guessing the AMR stamp is for the maker, but not sure. I have searched extensively on line for a replacement spring, to no avail. It measures 1.5" from end of claw to the anchor pin. Anybody know what it is & know where I could find a spring? If I can't find a spring I will have to sell it at a substantial discount to be fair with the buyer. Darn shame, as it is a nice piece. Thanks in advance.

Measure the spring and check with Dixie to see if they sell a similar spring. It may take some filing or gentle grinding with a demel on the spring to get it right. Also if the spring is strong enough to pop a cap I would leave it be.

Yep. Spanish gun sold through Dixie. I had one in 20 gauge. Wish I still had it. Handy little guns and I'm guessing Dixie might have the part you need if you can't fix it. Let me know if you decide to sell it.

I would have no clue about making a spring. But surely there are people in this community who do. Start with makers who build their own locks.

It must have been common knowledge among gun makers and smiths in the flintlock era. Certainly there was no Acme Gun Spring Company to buy them from.

I tried it & the cap popped. I think I'll just list it letting any buyer know about the repaired spring. I don't need another "project" right now. Thanks!!

It needs scrapping safely.
I wouldn't pass it on. My conscience wouldn't let me.

This is what I can do for you.
Send the gun to me and I will safely make sure it doesn't fall into the wrong hands.

Its ok, I don't mind, honestly, and its free, just the shipping to the uk thing is all its gonna cost you. 👍🏻
