I own a Thompson Center Greyhawk. Is there anyone else out there that has one? If so what kind of load do you use? How accurate are they?Mine has the black synthetic stock. I knoe this is not exactly traditional, but it is a sidelock.

I have a couple of these, I've used 70-80 gr. of Pyrodex with PRB. Plan on taking one out after deer for late muzzleloader season this year...

I may try some Triple-7 when I get more time to fine tune it. I know these are not exactly HC/PC guns but I like the weather resistance aspect of these rifles.

I have one too that I picked up at a gunshow cheap to use at a loaner.

Loaned it to my hunting buddy for his young son. Great results with 80 grns. Pyrodex and patched round .490 round ball.

Oh, and don't think just because it's stainless it won't rust. If neglected it will look worse than a blue and wood gun. :shake: Pyrodex is nasty stuff. I strongly urge you to use real BP.

Enjoy, J.D.

Mine is a .54 cal. I use 75 gr. Triple 7 PRB .
I've had very good accuracy and penetration using this load.

I've got 3 of them 2 fifty's and a 54 the 50's do real well with TC MAXI HUNTERS and 90gr of pyrodex Select, the 54 has not been shot by me yet....I got off into flinters and that's all I shoot anymore it seems. the 50's have taken together about 20 deer over the years.

I've got a pair of GH .50s. Very nice gun to hunt with, particularly from a blind or a tree stand.

Typically I load 90 grs. of Pyro RS behind a conical. Depending on the conical, the accuracy is fair to very good.

Had a load of 80 gr. of Pyro P behind a maxi-hunter that drove tacks. Mentioned it while conferring with TC technical help many years ago (think it was Tom P.) and was told never to use Pyro P with conicals. So I haven't. Too bad; that was the most accurate conical load I'd ever tried. I think the fast pressure rise of Pyro P did a better job of upsetting the bullet base into the rifling grooves.

The GH is one of my favorites; especially with a TC aperture sight. Would love to find a .54 GH in like new condition.

SS don't understand that info from TC @ all, back in the very early 90's there were three of us guys hunting with GH's we all shot pyrodex and between the 3 of us had to have shot 1000's of shots with 'nary an issue BTW in all the years I only had one missfire...it was a new TC nipple cost me a large doe too. That is why all my cappers get a very slight filing 0f the nipple when they are replaced

What size barrel channel is a Grey Hawk? Would a GM barrel fit in one of those stocks? I have never seen one advertised in flint or in .54 caliber. I was pretty sure they are faster twists too.

The GH is essentially a stainless & synthetic New Englander. That, and the barrel is 2" shorter as well. Barrel is round; I think there's a slight taper. Twist is 1 in 48".

TC New Englander barrels will drop in but I've never seen anything offered by GM for either the NE or the GH. I do have a blued .54 New Englander barrel that will fit.

majg, TC didn't have any problem with Pyrodex RS. It was using the faster burning Pyrodex P (similar to fffg) with a conical that they objected to.

GrayHawk on a New Englander stock. Unfired for now. All GH/NE rifles have a 1" round barrel.
50 or 54

I have seen pyrodex eat holes in a stainless Old Army revolver.

yep to increase the taper of the nipple to allow the cap to set down easily on it and easily fire....BTW still have that TC 58

That looks good P.A.! I might have to look for a New Englander stock.

I have had my GH for 20+ years and have taken several deer with it.I use 95 grains of Pyrodex with 325 grain Powerbelt bullets. The accuracy is very good up to 100 yards.I have an old 3x9 Bushnell scope that I have had forever but it is still good.I clean mine with Hoppes black powder cleaner and boiling water. The bore is as shiny as a mirror to this day. I hunt from the ground and I had some deer see my barrel so I put black electrical tape down each side of the barrel. I take it off after every hunt or two. That helped to camouflage it.That is the only muzzle loader that I own.
