So here's the barrel after cutting it down for my T/C Hawken .54cal carbine. My friend cut it, did the inside and outside crowns, and cut the dovetail. It ended up 22". It came out really good! Now to blue it and obtain the stock & lock.
For the leftover pieces, we both immediately thought...T/C Hawken Derringer!😆😆😆
But now for the haters....
🥱🥱🥱
I have from multiple sources of 22-24" barrels the accuracy being little to no difference in performance. Besides, the purpose of this build is for in the timber where short distances are all you have to shoot and moving side to side and not hitting trees is an important consideration. What??? None of you make running shots? So if you like it then like but if you don't, then move on. This is what I want and it is turning out great.

If it were me, I would not have cut it down....but that's me. On the other hand, I really like short, lightweight guns. I also like sling swivels and slings which are definitely not PC. All that said, I had a .54 T/C White Mountain carbine for a few years before I stupidly sold it. It shot pretty well and with the short 21" barrel was well under 7# and carried really nicely. It'll be interesting to see how it works out for you....probably great.

Thanks. In addition to what I said above, I also have a 27" T/C Hawken in .54(I think it's a renegade barrel). My T/C smoothie is a 29" 56. I plan on rebarreling a 50 barrel to 54 for a 32incher with Malcolm scope and mounts. Add in a pair of Investarms pistols or cut down the stocks and barrels of 2 T/C Hawkens, then naturally the only one not covered is a carbine.
