T/C Hawken Half **** Position?

So I was looking at a T/C Hawken at a pawn shop yesterday. I don't own a BP rifle but I'm kinda looking.
My question is: where, along the hammer travel from fully down to fully cocked, should the half **** position be? This one had one stop about 3/16" up from the nipple. Then there was the clicking noise and ratchety spot at where I thought half **** should be, but it didn't hold there. Then it held firm at full ****.
Does that sound correct?
By the way, the triggers worked great. Thanks in advance... I love it here!

Mine is about the same, half **** isn’t high enough to be able to cap the nipple.

Same with both my Hawkens. The only use I see for half **** would be as a safety when traveling with a capped rifle. For removing the barrel I'll go to full **** for more room.

It is probably fine; the noise you are hearing is perhaps a part called the fly which is designed to drop/pivot down to block the half **** notch on rifles with set trigger systems; its there to prevent the sear from catching the half **** when the rifle is fired with the set trigger.
It's not uncommon to have issues with this part in locks that are not kept fairly clean.

Sounds like it was probably fine then. It is a .50 cal and even had caps and patches in the patchbox. Ramrod end was falling off, and other end had whatever was on it (jag?) missing. Bore was dark and they had no bore light, so not sure about that.

Just one of many little quirks with TC sidelocks. Sometimes you can barely see any space at all 'tween the hammer nose & the nipple at half-****.

With a small narrow beam flashlite you can get somewhat of an idea of bore condition.

Same issue with mine. I have to pull the hammer back a little to seat a cap; but it works just fine otherwise.
