I picked up a used T/C Hawken .54 cal rifle the other day for a good price. It had been pretty neglected. It had a rusty barrel. I have always wanted a .58 cal. I was wondering about having it bored out to .58 and rifled. Does anyone know the cost of something like this? Also is there someone in the northwest that does this? I live in Idaho. Thanks for any help.

This can be done, do a search here. Can't remember the best barrel maker

Another option is a Green Mountain barrel, they pretty much are a drop in. Lately seem they have production problems. All the GM barrels a fine shooters

Idaho Jones,

Don't know of anyone in the northwest who does barrel wrok. I had Bobby Hoyt in PA bore out my .56 cal smoothbore T/C barrel into a .58 cal rifled barrel. I just got it back and haven't shot it yet. He only charged me $50 for the work. Add shipping there and back. If you send him your barrel, don't expect it right away because he's very busy. It took around 3.5 months to get it back.

Yes I would do the green mountain option, except I've never seen one of there barrels in stock.

Welcome to the forum. I talked to GM on Friday. I don't know what they have for 58 but I ordered a Stainless 45 cal with a 1-30 twist.

I was told that they have shut down production and are moving to a new location. Once they are settled they plan to build ML barrels again. Right now there is no plan to make Stainless barrels.

In April I sent a 26"x1" TC .56 smoothbore barrel to Bob Hoyt. He machined it to a .62 rifled bore.
My cost was $60 + shipping to his shop. My barrel arrived at his shop 4/15 and I received it back on 5/7, approx. 3 weeks turnaround.

He will give you a price over the phone. Ship him the barrel with a letter confirming what you want done.

He will have several machining jobs running at the same time and he will not answer the phone if one of the jobs needs some attention. Call back later.

Workmanship, price and delivery exceeded my expectations.
