what is the factory twist rate of the t/c hawkens 50 caliber

Most are 1/48 but some barrels were made with an RB twist but like stated most all were the traditional 1/48 twist that was originally the Hawkin twist.

Don't let anyone tell you that 1-48 will not work with a patched ball. In my limited experience 1-48 can drive tacks with a patched ball.

1/48 typically. From what I know, which isn’t much, they also made a slow twist barrel.

Standard 1 in 48 barrels aren't marked with the twist but TC's roundball barrels came from their Fox Ridge Outfitters custom shop and have a banner on the side with "roundball twist 1 in 66" in it.

Thompson/Center used the 1 in 48" twist so that the shooter could achieve acceptable accuracy with both the Maxi-Ball or a patched round ball.

Like any type of shooting you need to experiment and work up the load that performs best in your rifle.

As several have indicated. 1/48 was standard, the RB twist 1/66 was available, I think through fox ridge, their custom shop. But the 1/48 will toss a RB well. The only TC I don't shoot RB through is my White Mountain Carbine, cuz it likes Maxi" s better.

Many of Thompson Centers barrels were made by Investarms and were of 1 in 48 twist. As has been reported, Fox Ridge made 1 in 66 twist barrels and they were dang good shooters. Too bad they went out of business.

With my T/C, I have split a roundball on an ax blade and snuffed out a candle without hitting the wax. So, yes, these rifles can be very accurate

TC barrels were never ever made by Investarms. The Investarm clones are close enough copies of TC's that parts can be swapped around easily.

l’ve done the same, splitting a ball on an axe blade and snuffing candles many, many times. They can be and are accurate. For both my TC Hawken and TC Patriot, I like to think of them as having a “Peppermint Twist” because they both are sweet shooters.

think you are think of Italian Firearms Group. not affiliated with Investarms.

Some years back I looked into Investarms and was told by the Importer that
it was a group of makers and not one factory. In any case I love mine.
Notice that Cabelas replaced Investarm with Pedersoli.

Can you help us all(?) by providing actual documentation that the premiere American made T/C Traditional Muzzle Loading rifle was made using Italian barrels?

Thompson/Center Arms was a division of the K.W. Thompson Tool Company, Inc. K.W. Thompson Tool was a modern, investment casting facility located in New England. In 1965 firearms designer Warren Center joined them at which time the Contender Pistol was introduced. With the success of the Contender, the Hawken, Patriot, Seneca, and Renegade followed.

I doubt that T/C used Italian manufactured barrels. They certainly had the ability to manufacture their own, and Italian barrels would need to be proofed prior to export. They would be covered with Italian proof marks like all other replica firearms manufactured there.

You never say never with firearms, but I seriously doubt this one.

I also believe Fox Ridge was the custom division of Thompson/Center Arms, but I could be wrong.
