I have never see a TC barrel that shot as good as or better than a GM barrel....not that TCs are bad they just wont shoot with a GM...period
Just to clarify a point for many who might not know, a major problem with the vast majority of people who compare a GM barrel to a TC barrel is that its comparing apples and oranges.
The typical TC that somebody buys has a shallow groove barrel on it so it'll shoot both conicals and PRBs...a compromise barrel if you will. Then the TC owner might buy a GM barrel which happens to be a deeper groove round ball barrel because that's what they make, find that it shoots PRBs more accurately than the shallow groove TC barrel, and draw the conclusion / make the claim that GM barrels are more accurate than TC barrels as an across the board statement...but its apples and oranges.
You can tell just by reading posts on forums year after year...had a couple more right here this week...that practically nobody knew or knows that TC even made deep groove 1:66" round ball barrels.
I have TC round ball barrels in .45/.50/.54cals and GM round ball barrels in .40/.58/.62cals because TC didn't make them in those calibers...no difference in accuracy when comparing apples to apples.
And this is really my only hobby that I spend my pennies in so rest assured if TCs round ball barrels weren't very accurate I wouldn't waste my time with them, and every barrel in the house would be a GM round ball barrel instead.
Were talking GM vs TC when shooting roundballs here, correct?
No, I'm talking about round ball
"barrels"
I'm talking about the fact that the vast majority of people didn't/don't even know there are T/C round ball barrels so when they compare accuracy from a GM round ball barrel to a standard TC conical/RB barrel and make the claim that GM barrels are more accurate than T/Cs its an apples to oranges conmparison. Its like saying a Remington 700/.30-06 & Leupold scope is more accurate than than a Marlin lever action with open sights, therefore "Remington's are more accurate than Marlins".
Using your own logic reference to "top shooters", the only 'accurate' way to validate such a claim would be if those "top shooters in the country" you refer to had first used T/C "round ball barrels" then replaced them with GM "round ball barrels" in the same caliber and found them more accurate...but I'll bet lunch not a one of them ever used a T/C round ball barrel first and did that.
In that same vein, I've never known anyone, or in 10 years have never seen a post from anyone, who had bought a T/C round ball barrel then set it aside to replace it with the same caliber in a GM barrel due to poor accuracy...I was just making it clear to everyone that such across the board statements have no basis in fact unless they compare apples to apples.
I have a couple of of GM round ball Flint barrels myself... .40cal & .58cal...but only got GM's because T/C doesn't make .40cal & .58cal round ball Flint barrels...
