I have a T/C PA Hunter 50cal. 31" barrel that I want to use for the after Christmas season. I am interested in what current users of this model think of their guns and what loads they use. I sighted it in with 80grs 2F and it shoots pretty good from the bench if I keep it real clean. Is this enough power for deer out to 100yds. I have some PA conicals but have not tried them yet. Have any members tried these in their guns (240grs from Hornady). Thanks

i owned 2 TC Pa hunters. they are a 1:66 barrel twist made to shoot round ball and are a real tack driver with round ball. not sure how conicals are going to work for you. 80 grains 2f is more than enough to harvest deer at 100 yards however not to many fellers would shoot 100 yards with open sights. i keep it to 50 or under. i'm sure many people are really good out to 100 but thats not for me.

I shoot 75 grains out of the PA hunter carbine and it was effective up to at least 80 yards. I use PA conicals from a 1:66 twist barrel (not the T/C, however), and they are accurate enough for deer at reasonable ranges but don't group as tightly as the round ball for me. Give them a try if they are accurate enough for you at the range, then use them on deer.

I have been using my Pa Hunter for 8 years now, I use 80 Gr of 2F and .015 patch, .495 round ball. This combination will cut the same hole at 25 yds and just about cut the same hole 50yds. That is using the TC barrel.

There is no difference with mine Griz....Must be the nature of the beast! Ya gotta love the balance of the PA Hunter. Makes the Hawken feel like a 2x4. 9lbs of 2x4! :shake:

got 2 pa hunters i shoot 90 grs of 3f with a 385gr hornady greaty plains bullet, yes i know its a 1 in 66 twist but these shoot better than round balls i can put 3 in a 1.75'' group at 80 yards

I thought I might share some loads I have tried this fall for people with T/C PA Hunters using this tread. I got good groups with the 240gr PA conical but didn't use them for hunting. I got about 3" groups (100yds) with Buffalo Ball-ets in 270gr hollowpoints (1/66" twist barrel). I used it to take a deer at about 65yds. with 100gr of 2f; shoulder shot, complete pass thru and great expansion. The 270gr. Buffalo Ball-et seemed to have a great deal more power than the round balls I had been using on deer.
