I went to the range Sat. with my new green mountain barrel 1-70 twist. Great shooting but I am not happy with the back sight. TOO big opening on the back sight and hard to get a true bead.
I looked into a peep sight but the holes in the T/C Peep sight is 1 1/4" between holes and the holes in my renegade is 2 1/2" from center to center. They say the sight will fit the T/C guns?
I can get someone to drill and tap the tang to make it fit but would like to use the holes that are already in place. As anyone ran into this?

T/C made 2 and 3 hole tangs. The easyest way out for you is to keep a weather eye out on Ebay for a 1"barrel diameter 3 hole tang. I recon it will sell for a lot less than having a gun smith drill and tap a hole for you.

The instructions with the T/C Hunter Peep sight say, for the Renegade, to use the existing rear tang screw for the rear of the sight. After attaching it with this screw, mark the hole for drilling/tapping the front hole. I have done three myself and it is pretty easy.

Have you considered a T/C Contender Pistol rear sight? They will screw right on and you can different width rear sights.

I guess my thoughts are: do you want a peep sight or to replace your current rear sight?

If you want a peep sight, consider a Lyman. You will need to drill the tang and tap the hole. It’s not really difficult; I have done 5 or so. The advantage to the Lyman peep sights is that they are easy to remove if you want to.

I have changed most of my rear sights out to T/C Contender pistol rear sights; I like them better than the ones on GM barrels and the newer rear sights on T/C BP barrels. Actually the best that I have found are T/C Contender Pistol Silhouette rear sights but they are no longer made and run about $265 if you can find them.

I have changed out all my front sights to Lyman Globes; I really do like them for hunting and target work.

Here are the instructions directly off of the T/C No. 7194 Hunter Style Tang Mount Peep Sight:

"For T/C Hawken, Renegade, Big Boar, White Mtn. Carbine, and Pennsylvania hunter.
WARNING: Never attempt to install a sight on a loaded firearm. Always ensure that the firearm is UNPRIMED AND UNCHARGED. Failure to heed this warning could result in an accidental discharge causing injury and/or death to the shooter or bystanders and damage to Property.
Read the instructions included in this package before attempting to install or use this sight.
Installation of the T/C Tang Peep Sight on Thompson/Center Traditional Cap Lock or Flint Lock Muzzleloaders:
Hunting Style Tang Peep Sights require the drilling of either one or two additional holes in the tang for mounting.
For the White Mountain Carbine and Pennsylvania Hunter models, two additional holes must be drilled and tapped. Place the sight midway between the front and rear tang screws, then center the sight side to side on the tang. Use a prick punch to mark the front hole only. Use a #29 drill and an 8-32 tap to thread the hole after it has been drilled. Once the front screw has been secured, then mark the rear screw hole; drill and tap.
For other traditional T/C side locks, it will only be necessary to drill and tap the front hole. The back hole uses the existing rear tang screw found on the rifle. Once secured with the rear tang screw (and aligned side to side on the tang), mark the front screw location with a prick punch - use a #29 drill to drill the hole, and a 8-32 thread tap. If you have any questions about this, call the Thompson/Center Service Dept. at (603) 332-2333."

BTW, Mid-South Shooter's Supply has the lowest price I have found on the T/C Hunter Tang Peep... $45.22 plus S&H. See: http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=000307194

Although most of the peep sights mentioned are nowhere near period correct, I like the looks of the T/C on a traditional sidelock a lot more than the others. But the T/C is annoyingly difficult to adjust compared with the others. Once you have it adjusted though, it will stay put.
