That damage is entirely the result of poor packing. I bet the holes in the box are from the lock poking through.

I'm glad you got a partial refund. Maybe next time the seller will pack better.

Was the gun shipped with the barrel IN the stock??? That's the biggest error made. The barrels must be removed and wrapped individually before packing. I just got a nice Seneca yesterday via FedEx and it was exceptionally packaged and in two parts, as I requested. I noted on another thread earlier this week about insisting on guns being taken down before shipping. I lost a wonderful PA Hunter because the auction house sent it AND a .54 Renegade in the same box both with the barrels in-place. The Renegade was fine, the PA Hunter, ruined, all but shattered wrist.

If that is the only boxed it was shipped in the result is the fault of the guy shipping it. I have received or shipped many, many guns and not one damaged yet. There is something to be said for proper packing.

I separate TC's for shipping and wrap the barrel and stock individually. UPS is a pain in the neck depending on whose at the counter.

But, is it just me, or is that a strange break to run almost parallel down the wrist into the butt stock. Maybe Im seeing it wrong.

Breaking down the barrel and stock , also remove and wrap the lock. Seems the hammer always makes its way thru a cardboard box. On another thread someone mentioned to put the mailing address on individual pieces inside the box in case they are separated.

That certainly seems feasible for a wedged barrel, but what about those that are pinned? I don’t know that I’d want to risk damage to the stock through their removal. Of course, I guess you’ve got to decide which is the lesser of two evils.

Never use UPS. UPS has a history of deliberately destroying and stealing gun shipments. There have been reports of employees doing so base on political beliefs. Do not ship guns in cardboard make a wooden box. USPS does better, do choose express shipping with insurance and tracking. The price is irrelevant if they destroy your property.

Based on the realities of today I would include an Apple air tag or similar tracking device in the box.

If it is a full stock you risk more damage removing the barrel. I have not seen many pinned half stocks , most modern builds are wedges.

Use Pirate ship (cheap/insured/tracking) did I say CHEAP! USPS or UPS ,your choice/Ed

pirateship or sendle (very cheap services) - I often use them after selling my goods and delivery to clients especially from Europe.

I can also recommend labels.vc (purchase function opens after registration) - here are cheap shipping labels (usps priority - 6$), for those who sell a lot or trade in bulk through such services as amazon or ebay - great option.

FedEx lost an unmentionable of mine upon warranty repair from the manufacturer. A threat of legal action flushed the game and the local VP handed it to me in person. USPS is the best in my neck of the woods.

USPS will only ship long guns, and expect to argue with the counter person about it. You will need to prove you can send it, bring a copy of their own regulations. You can just not say anything and probably be ok. Be aware, according to my friends that work for them, if there is a suspected firearm in the box, they may hold the package for inspection, and get ATF involved…

for safest shipping remove barrel from stock. wrap each part, then in same box,makes shorter package n lowers shipping cost also.

I tried to ship a shotgun through UPS and was told at the counter that he could not create a label for it, and told me to go home and create my own label for it on line and bring it back. I created my own label and handed it to my UPS driver, who I know, and it arrived at it's destination with no issues. With USPS here, it all depends on who is at the counter and how well their meds are working that day.

Do that with one of Mr Kiblers SMR and it will take on the exact opposite of what he sent you ,no longer perfect but at least he knows how to ship perfection to you. After that he makes replacement stocks !

Separate the Rifle. Then get a few $1.00 Pool Noodles from the dollar store (stock up in the summer if need be) take a razor knife and split the noodle down one side, stick the barrel in one, sandwich the stock in TWO split pool noodles (extra piece of split noodle around lock / hammer), and then the ram rod in another. Duct tape to hold noodle around parts, ONLY let duct tape touch noodle. Put all pieces in the box then pack dead space with Pnuts, bubble wrap, etc. I've shipped a many a front stuffer like this, narry a problem. The damage CAN result in the carrier, but I bet you a fat rat to a funky monkey most times it is the SELLERS LAZINESS or being cheap on packing!!
