Just picked up a T/C 56 smoothbore from the bay....little more than I wanted to spend but can't wait to get it next week for shoot'n and testing loads...like CL, I plan on using it this Spring for turkey here in Pennsylvania...will post some pictures when I learn how? :)

If you don't want to install a permanent recoil pad, you always have the option of a slip-on pad and you can cover this with one of those fringed slip on slings so it won't look so period incorrect! You will want to work up the hottest load you can handle that will give you the tightest pattern possible as those turkey can be mighty tough hombre's! Alway's head shoot em too, I've seen em take a 12ga in the shoulder and never seen again....their feathers are like body armor! :v

yep K13 is right,it's not just the feathers though when you dress one out you'll see the vitals are protected by a lot of meat (yum, yum)and a large breast bone.I've knocked them down with large loads from 10gauge suppository guns only to have to finish them off in the air or in a few cases just loose that bird :( The best rule is shoot ONLY @ their head/neck area, keep ranges reasonable and load'em up with pellets :hatsoff:

Pick up the .56 smoothy @ post office tomorrow...got me some .530 & .535 balls, .010, .015 and .020 lubed patches, also some CCI #11 caps just waiting to get shot! :)

Question on patches: can I use 2 patches at the same time to get a tight fitting ball? Other than being wasteful it seems like it shouldn't be a problem! :idunno:

yep you can do that, but in my 56SB the .550 ball works some better....notice I said some.Molds can be purchased from Mr Jeff Tanner or a guy on castboolits by the board name of MIHA that is were I got mine his molds have a sprue cutter Mr Tanners don't...then found a NIP TC mold on FleaBay :shocked2:

Okay, as cold as it was today I trudged thru snow to the shoot'n range and shot the smooth bore...mmm nice! Got it on at 25 yds, shoot'n dead center with the balls (3) touching each other :) ...will try at 50yds when it warms up some!

The load was 80gr of 3f goex, .535 swaged Horn. balls, and a .020 lubed patch ignited by Rem. #11 caps!

So far I'm happy with the barrel...but we'll see! :v
