Anyone know the differences in the old style and new style tangs on the Hawken aside from not being tapped for a peep? I'm assuming that the faces are the same since replacement barrels don't specify they fit one or the other. I kind of like the features of the earlier ones and wondered if I could swap out on a later model I have without too much trouble.

Same tangs, just eliminated the center hole that was used for that tall vernier back then

Two different sizes of course...15/16" and 1".

PS: I've noticded difference in the thickness of the tang strap over the years...every now and then I've had a Hawken with a tang strap twice as thick as normal...would not just 'drop-in' to another Hawken with the normal shallow inletting.

Thanks for the info. Now where the heck to find a tang, aside from buying the gun that's wrapped around it? The dreaded Ebay, destroyer of guns? :haha:

Track of the Wolf has them and claims they are "nearly identical". I have used one of the 15/16 tangs and fit was good but, as Roundball said with some of the actual TC tangs, the strap was a little thicker and I had to deepen the inletting on the stock slightly. It was a good excuse to bed the tang in the stock......

Part #s are

Plug -TC-15-5 and TCF-15-5 for 15/16 barrels in perc and flint, respectively.

Plug-TC-16- and -TCF-16-3 for the 1 inch barrels

They also have plugs/tangs for TC senacas/cherokees if you want to fit a barrel to them.

The original tangs do show up on ebay too.

Just call TC customer service...theyu might not even charge you for it...

What size tang do you need? I think that I have a 15/16 tang haven't seen it in a couple of years and will have to find it.

Would the TOTW tangs be tapped like the old ones? I would guess T/C's would be new style.

The TOTW tangs I've purchased only had the two mounting screw holes, not the additional one for mounting a tang sight.

RedFeather,
I have a T\C 50 Cal. Hawken kit. On the instructions that came with it says the current T\C muzzleloader kits use a through bolt to secure the tang to the front section of the trigger guard. It use to have just 2 screws holding the tang. If you have any question about this call the T\C service department.
