I have a T/C Hawken I bought when I first got interested in black powder shooting 30-odd years ago. I those days the range racks were full of these and it was sometimes impossible to tell whose rifle was whose. I started modifying my rifle to look more like a trade rifle. The first thing I did was reshape the cheek piece to a pancake shape. I'd like to fit a Lyman trade rifle trigger and tigger guard to it, now that I'm getting back into BP shooting. Does anyone see a problem with that? As I recall the Lyman trigger guard will fit. What about the trigger? will it function with a T/C percussion lock?

I have cast a pewter nose cap on the rifle.

I don't know the part number off hand but t/c makes a replacement single stage trigger for the renegade and hawkens

If you go to TOTW they mention that the lyman/investarms double set triggers fit the same inletting as the TC triggers. IMHO the TC triggers are a bit nicer and have better finish. If the inletting is the same I can't see why the Lyman/Investarms and TC single set triggers won't also interchange

P.S. I upgraded a couple of my TCs with Davis double set triggers that I'm very happy with.

Good luck on your project. I had TC flintlock & flint barrel sitting around for years, so I also do a +/- Leman style trade gun. However, I needed a stock so bought the Leman full stock blank, trigger, & trigger guard from Track of the Wolf. Turned out pretty good, so I gave it to my daughter. She can shoot it better than I can. I've also modified a couple TCs into more of an original style, & have received lots of favorable comments. At least TC leaves enough wood on their stocks to work with. Yeah, the forend cap is the first thing to go.

Agreed, one can really remove a lot of wood from a T/C or Lyman and make a much better looking gun. Just replacing the forend tip with a separate nose cap and entry thimble and straightening the pot bellied underline of forend and butt makes it a very different gun. I see no reason NOT to do it!

Good luck with the work. Some before and after pics would be appreciated
