Tang mounted Peep Sights

I have a 32 inch .40 cal. drop in rice barrel on an Investarms stock. I have tang mounted peep sights. The hook breech fits the tang snugly. The stock could fit better. I shoot 50 yard bench matches with it. It will shoot as many 10's as 9's. For cleaning I remove the barrel. I am thinking that bedding the barrel to the stock will make the barrel fit the stock the same after cleaning. Anyone with rifles with tang mounted sights let me know what you think.

I have a peep on my Rocky Mountain Hawken .54. I haven't bedded it, given the solid alignment of that heavy barrel. I take the barrel off every time for cleaning; it always goes back on without a change to zero. I have a Tryon rifle too, in the same caliber for comp matches - peep sights are forbidden in our muzzle loading comps, so traditional sights on that one.

I have peep sights on my Lyman GPR. I take the barrel out every time to clean it. It seems to go back in without issues every time. Every rifle could be different. The only thing to do is try bedding it and see if it makes any difference. It sure shouldn't hurt it any if you did.

Have you considered installing a barrel mounted rear peep sight?

When you say "the stock could fit better", do you mean to tight, too loose or what? If it is too tight, blacken the barrel and see if there is any place in the barrel channel that would benefit from a little scraping. Too loose; bedding might be a good option.

The fit is a little loose. I have been using canvas to shim between the barrel and the stock. I plan to bed the barrel to make the fit the same each time I put the barrel back in after removal for cleaning. I have a match next Sunday so I can see if bedding helps.

I have a Lyman 57 SML mounted on the tang of my Investarms "Hawken" in .54. It is the most accurate muzzleloader I own, or at least the one I shoot the best nowadays with old eyes. I shoot pennies taped to a foam board at 50 yards, and hit them the vast majority of the time. My gun is completely stock, with the exception of the tang sight, and POI has never shifted, even though I remove the hooked breach barrel everytime for cleaning. YMMV.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question. I am working on bedding the .40 cal. and a .36 cal. green Mt. barrel in a similar stock. Both rifles have Lyman 57 sights with adjustable target nobs. Lyman 17 globe sight on the front. I hope bedding eliminates the small shift in point of impact from loading a tight patched dry lubed round ball, as well as be back at zero after removing the barrel for cleaning. I want the barrel to fit the same each time and not move when loading. The shift is small, but anything that takes the ball out of the 10 ring can loose the match. This Sunday I will shoot six 50 yard bench matches. I plan to use the .40 cal. Rice barrel. I shot it last month in a turkey shoot and won a turkey. Just a grocery shoot this month. Still fun.
