Not sure why no one responded to your question Mathias. I guess it would depend on what you have planned for your gun. What will you be using it for?

Tang sights are good sights, but it will make a difference on what you will be shooting. Will you be hunting, plinking, long range target shooting or what?

I hunt quite a bit and don't like the tang or peep sights for hunting. I don't think I can react quick enough with them.

Now as to longe range target shooting I love them. I use one on my Pedersoli Sharps for side matches at Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS) matches.

Nice rifle. Is it an original or replica?

Not a muzzleloader but BP I have one on my trapdoor, I'm really happy with it, with these old eyes it really made seeing the front sight easy.

I don't think I would want to tap the tang of an original rifle like that. Seems like the wrong thing to do.

I have a tang sight on my 32" Hawkin .54 it works very well. Am sure it is not PC but I like it. If you think it would be helpful you can PM and I will email you pics.

Hi Rafsob
It will be used for target shooting sense huntng whit bp is´t legal where i live. Yes it is a original and i know it might feel wrong to alter a original but they are not so rare and it is quit a lot of truble to get licenced to own a newly produced bp gun. so for me it is easier to look for an old rifle and make a shooter of her. And find another one for collecting.

If you remove the aperture disc from the tang sight, and use the 1/4" diameter mounting HOLE in the sight as a " ghost ring sight", you should be able to hunt with it in even very poor light conditions. The eye will still automatically center the larger hole around the front sight.

I used a peep sighted gun to hunt my last Wild Boar, on a very overcast January Day in Tennessee. If I had left the aperture in the sight, It would have been useless in the gray light I had that day. Worse in aiming against the dark fur of the boar I shot. But, I removed the disc, and put in my shirt pocket, just in case the sun decided to break through before I saw my boar. I ended up using the "Ghost-ring", and put the bullet exactly where I aimed.

Thats a good idea!! I have a ghost ring on one of my more modern guns but i never thought of alter a tang sight to one.
