Anybody know how wide a simple hettle loom has to be to produce 1" of width on the finished product? I know it has also to do with the thickness of the yarn, but a ballpark would be nice.

Anybody have a website to recommend? I was thinking of doing some lindsey-woolsey legging ties.

Thanks

Shoot I wish you'd have posted this a couple days ago. I was just down at a show at Prickett's Fort and one of our interpreters was weaving on hers

Its going to depend on your warp thread size. Thicker warp strings will produce a wider band, and vice versa.

20 thick warp threads may produce a 1" band.

I would go for something that is about 4" wide, that should cover most anything you want to do. You will have to play around with your warp threads to see how wide it becomes.

My homemade inkle has "axles" four inches long and can make a 1-14" wide tape easily. Wider tapes become a pain to manage.

"1-1/4". Not "1 to 14!"

Dave, It has to do with thread size. Also most all thread is label with the number of thread it takes for a inch wide.I use 8/4 cotton on all my straps and slings. With 8/4 cotton it takes 20-22 threads for a inch wide straps. Most tape looms will work for a inch wide strap
