Is it possible [and/or as likly] to get Target accuracy with pyrodex RS or P, As compared to BP 2f or 3f? 50cal, Per,slow twist, RB. 25 - 100 yds. Has anyone run any serious test in this area??

This is one cool thing about blackpowder guns! What works in mine won't in yours. You really have to try it for yourself.

100% correct.

All you can do is try it and see what happens.

Nothing beats the real stuff IMO. I get 100% ignition and far better accuracy out of Goex compared to Pyro-puff.

ss1,
What's pyrodex????Just kidding...When started
shooting M/Ls I used that stuff because I could
not find B/P but since I have, I would not use anything else. This may sound silly but the main
reason I stay with B/P is the smell. Pyrodex just
does not smell like B/P, at least to me. As far
as accuracy, with the proper loads in any given
rifle you can attain very good accuracy. But as
stated before me, every barrel is different and
its up to you to find the best load for your
particular needs.
snake-eyes :hmm:

With the very real possibility of hang fire with Pyrodex, IMHO it would not be a good powder to use for serious target, and accuracy shooting. Back when I used Pyrodex, the occasional hangfire, or slightly delayed ignition was the way it was. I Don't use that stuff any more. I've gone back to shooting real black powder. No hang fire, consistant accuracy, and ignition.

I tried that stuff one time----- long ago after shootin the real when I started out and the stuff was new on the market. (new tec.) Only bought one can. Tried it in a couple of rifles for maby 50 shots and then poured the rest of the can on the ground and fired it off with a match. Its real BP for me. :v

People shoot target groups with pyrodex all of the time. It is totally dependant on your gun and your shooting ability.

Shooting is 90% mental, the other 10% is what you have been drinking!

That's right Blackpowder tastes great, and it's less filling :rotf: er was that Miller Lite

Some of the best groups I've ever shot were with Pyrodex. It will hang fire in poorly designed patten breeches and I do prefer Goex for all the reasons others have stated but if Pyro is what you have you can work around the problems and get fine accuracy with it.

I agree so much with many of these posts...I used Pyrodex RS for awhile. My kids were taught it was cleaner in a gun class they took. I went back to Goex and fell in love! The Pyrodex takes a split second to touch off, Goex is instant which can have a big relation to your overall accuracy. The kid in me still lives srong so I'll add it has cooler smoke {Goex does} I think Pyrodex is okay to use and whether you get better results with it than bp is only for you to decide. Pit them against each other and see

I tried Pyrodex and got poor accuracy and my bore rusted quickly. I still have half a can that I have offered to give away several times, but nobody wanted it. I think that it will go on the lawn in a bit -- just to get rid of it safely.

Greetings All,

Rabbitt03 and I have returned from the TMLRA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS having been there for a week.

NOBODY and I mean NOBODY used Pyrodex or anything except real blackpowder.

Rabbitt shot a 50-X on one 100 yard target and finished 4th place overall using nothing but blackpowder. This was his first attempt at the cross-sticks event.

I do not know of any top-ranked national champion that uses anything except real blackpowder.

Best regards and good shooting,

John L. Hinnant
